Breaking News On Teoh Beng Hock Inquest-Thai expert says Teoh’s death ‘80pc’ homicide

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand told the coroner’s court this morning that there was an 80 per cent probability that Teoh Beng Hock’s death was homicide and not suicide, and suggested that some of his injuries were sustained before his fatal fall.
Under questioning from Selangor state lawyer, Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, Dr Pornthip testified that the political aide was indeed alive when he hit the ground but added that he was unconscious, judging from the lack of injuries to his wrists and ankles.
She explained that if he were still conscious when he fell, there would have been “reaction wounds” to show he had instinctively tried to stop from hitting the ground. She said that Teoh’s injuries showed he could have been strangled and that he sustained anal penetration before he fell to his death on July 16.
Dr Pornthip added that Teoh could have passed out as a result of the strangulation or from the pain from injuries to his anal region.

She told the court that the likelihood that Teoh had committed suicide — the theory previously put forward by the two pathologists who examined Teoh’s body after death — was only 20 per cent.
The stunning testimony made by the forensic expert, who gained international prominence from her work in identifying the 2004 Asian tsunami victims and more recently in the death of Hollywood star David Carradine, appeared to suggest Teoh was assaulted before his death.

Using a graphics presentation, the 54-year-old who has carried out over 10,000 autopsies over the last 27 years, told the court that not all the injuries sustained by Teoh were consistent with those caused by a fall.

The anal tear, which she described as a “penetrating injury”, appeared to have happened before he fell.

Dr Pornthip noted that the tear measured 6cm-wide by 2cm-long.

She rejected the idea that the anus was penetrated by a bone fragment, which had been put forward by local pathologist, Dr Khairul Aznam Ibrahim from the Hospital Tengku Rahimah Ampuan in Klang.

She reasoned that if that had happened, the force would have punctured the area opposite its entry and not as what was shown in the autopsy photos taken.

She suggested that they were caused by an object inserted into Teoh’s anus from a bottom-up direction, which she indicated with a blue arrow on a picture slide projected on a white screen in the darkened courtroom this morning.

“This kind of injury, I’ve not seen in cases of fall from height,” the director-general of Thailand’s Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS) said.
However, she could not say what the object was.
She also said that the depth of the tear was not measured or mentioned in the autopsy report.
Dr Khairul had jointly written the autopsy report with Indian pathologist Dr Prashant Naresh Samberkar who is currently based at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Several stripes on Teoh’s upper thighs, just below the buttocks were also pointed out as inconsistent with injuries caused by a fall.
Dr Pornthip suggested the horizontal lines were the result of a beating with a stick.
She added that if she had carried out the autopsy on Teoh, she would have cut open the thighs just under the skin to check for internal bleeding in order to confirm her theory.
She also pointed out several “round” bruises on Teoh’s neck, which could mean “manual strangulation” by fingers.
Her lengthy explanation on Teoh’s neck injuries was peppered with graphic references to her own case studies of strangulation victims.
The skull fracture on Teoh’s head, she said, was not typical of an injury from a fall, but more compatible with the result of blunt force applied directly to the skull.
“I found contusion on fracture line, so the fracture could be caused by blunt force injury directly on skull,” she said, explaining why she disagreed with Dr Khairul’s and Dr Prashant’s theory.
The two doctors who performed Teoh’s autopsy had previously put forward the idea that the head injury may have been caused by the momentum of the landing.
“For transfer of force, (you) only find ring fracture at base of the skull along (the) spinal column, not a linear fracture and not a cervical spine fracture,” she added.
She said that her assessment was based on Teoh’s autopsy report, the photographs of his injuries and from snapshots taken at the site where his body was found.
Dr Pornthip who had earlier suggested that Teoh may have been dragged before he plunged to his death told the coroner’s court after lunch break that she no longer held the view.
In her testimony earlier, she had contradicted Dr Prashant’s idea that it was caused by the impact on the ground.
She explained that she had been allowed to view the original pictures of the shoe, which are of a better quality than the copies she had been provided, and confirmed that the marks on the sole were indeed caused by the impact when Teoh landed on the hard and rough ground feet first.
She told the court she would like to carry out her own autopsy on Teoh, but magistrate Azmil Muntapha Abas who is acting as coroner in the inquest, indicated that it may be too late to do so at this stage.
Dr Pornthip had also previously sent two assistants to join the court to survey where Teoh’s body was found on a 5th-floor landing outside the offices of the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Plaza Masalam here.
Teoh, who was the political secretary to a DAP state executive councillor, had been questioned overnight on July 15 to help an ongoing investigation into claims his boss had misused state funds.
Dr Pornthip was engaged as an expert witness by the Selangor state government. She had been among the first names suggested to carry out a joint autopsy on Teoh, but was rejected by his family whose reasons remain unknown. Earlier, she told the court that she had conducted over 10,000 autopsies in her career, of which more than 100 dealt with fatal falls from high places. She estimated Teoh to have died between 6am and 8am on July 16

West Malaysians think they are very clever, much cleverer than the 'natives' of East Malaysia. Some even think that East Malaysians are head-hunters and cannibals who walk around naked save for a leaf around their waist to hide their family jewels. So East Malaysians are not clever enough to make their own decisions. Kuala Lumpur has to decide what is best for Sarawak and Sabah. And Kuala Lumpur will decide who should lead the opposition in Sarawak and Sabah and who should be the candidates in the elections.

I suppose this not only demonstrates ignorance but arrogance as well. Or should we say ignorant arrogance (bodoh sombong, as the Malays would say)? Why can’t those people who sit in their high towers in Kuala Lumpur understand one thing? East Malaysians want to decide their own destiny and they know what is good for them better than any West Malaysian who flies into Sarawak or Sabah once or twice a year.

Sarawakians and Sabahans are fed up with the domination by Kuala Lumpur. They view Umno and Barisan Nasional as parti penjajah (colonialist parties). Sarawak and Sabah agreed to team up with the Federation of Malaya to form Malaysia in 1963 because they wanted independence from Britain. It was not to replace one colonial master, 10,000 miles away, with 10,000 colonial masters, one mile away.

Now, even the opposition, who want to replace Barisan Nasional as the government in East Malaysia, are acting like parti penjajah. Why should the East Malaysians choose the opposition over Barisan Nasional if all they would be doing is to replace one colonialist party for another colonialist party?

The East Malaysians know whom they want as their leaders and candidates. They do not want Kuala Lumpur deciding on their behalf their leaders and candidates. They know whom they should choose. After all, most times, Kuala Lumpur has demonstrated that they choose the wrong person anyway and it always ends up with disastrous results.

The chasm between East Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur is getting wider. However, instead of exploring ways to build a bridge, Kuala Lumpur is 'declaring war' on Sarawak and Sabah. And the opposition is going to end up losing East Malaysia because of this stupidity.

For example, Sabah is throwing a Hari Raya bash and Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has invited Zaid Ibrahim as their guest. Zaid has agreed to attend but there are those in PKR who do not want him to go. They want him to boycott the event to send a message to PKR Sabah that Kuala Lumpur is not supportive of Jeffrey.

If the PKR leadership thinks that Jeffrey should go then tell him so. Then let him go back to Barisan Nasional if this is what PKR wants. But to boycott his Hari Raya party and to order Zaid to not attend the event is not only childish but damaging the opposition cause as well.

It is time this nonsense stops. We just can’t treat the East Malaysians like we are their colonial masters. The East Malaysians will never take this crap from Kuala Lumpur. The piece below, which was published in Malaysia Today on 12 October 2009, says it all. To West Malaysians, however, this is an East Malaysian matter and, therefore, of no interest to us in West Malaysia.

But it does matter. It does matter because Sarawak has 31 parliament seats and Sabah another 25. PKR is screwing up Sarawak and Sabah big-time. The article by Paul Sir, originally published in The Borneo Post and reproduced in Malaysian Mirror, explains only part of the problem and there are some things missing from this piece.

Why in heaven’s name did Anwar Ibrahim select Gabriel Adit as his ‘horse’ in Sarawak? This is one slime-ball who does more harm than good. And now he wants to go and form Pakatan Rakyat Sarawak.

Does the name ring a bell? Pakatan Rakyat. This would mean once the Registrar of Societies approves the registration of Pakatan Rakyat Sarawak, then that name can no longer be used. And this would mean Pakatan Rakyat or PR will have to go look for a new name.

Gabriel Adit is hijacking the Pakatan Rakyat name so that the opposition coalition will not be able to use that name any longer, at least not as a registered coalition. And this is the man Anwar trusted so much.

Gabriel Adit is in fact in deep financial trouble. He is in serious debt and one of the banks he owes money to is none other than CIMB, the bank that is run by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s brother. Najib has agreed to help Gabriel Adit solve his financial problems that runs into millions if he agrees to sabotage the opposition in Sarawak.

And this is exactly what he is doing.

From the word go Gabriel Adit was the wrong ‘horse’ for Sarawak. Other than his financial problems he is also a known Tiong King Sing crony, the Member of Parliament for Bintulu who is at the centre of the PKFZ scandal. Remember the plane rides and RM10 million cash he gave the MCA president, recently deposed? Yes, this is that same man.

The other person Gabriel Adit is associated with is Sng Chee Hua. This was the man behind Ummi Hafilda Ali, Azmin Ali’s sister, who was the crucial person in Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial in 1998-1999. You can say that Sng and Umi are both behind Anwar’s downfall and his subsequent six years and seven months stay in prison.

Why in heaven’s name would Anwar trust these types of people? Just because they have prostrated on the ground and begged forgiveness does not mean these leopards have changed their spots. I would call them Trojan Horses. And would not someone who is having an affair with someone’s wife be a gross liability if the public were to find out? Yes, and don’t tell me that Anwar had not heard of the affair that Gabriel Adit is having with Datin Pengiran Juliana?

Anwar and PKR are making too many mistakes in East Malaysia. It is time they stopped messing up Sarawak and Sabah before the East Malaysians kicked out PKR for good. I think this boycott of Jeffrey’s Hari Raya bash is the last straw. They do this and even I will persuade Jeffrey to leave PKR and go set up his own party. And if they twist Zaid’s arm and force him to boycott Jeffrey’s event then maybe Zaid should also reconsider his position in PKR.

I have just about had it with these childish and amateurish antics of the PKR people who are messing up everything. Don’t try to push Sarawak and Sabah around. They will not take this kind of treatment. And the more you act like colonialists the more they are going to resist you. And without Sarawak and Sabah and the 56 parliament seats they control you can forget about forming the next federal government.

Has PKR lost the plot in East Malaysia?

Late last year, in a move seen by many as boosting PKR’s prospects in the forthcoming state elections in Sarawak, Ngemah independent state assemblyperson Gabriel Adit, apparently with thousands of his supporters in tow, joined PKR.

A Malaysiakini report dated 13th November, 2008 quoted Adit as saying that “once he is officially in PKR, he will help his colleagues at state and national levels to build up the party’s grassroots where it counts most ahead of the state elections”.

At the PKR Congress on 29th November, last year, Adit was showcased as a key asset to the party making a siginificant headway in Sarawak at the next state elections.

In June, this year, the PKR Sarawak leadership underwent a revamp. A Malaysiakini report dated 3rd June, 2009 has it that this exercise was with a view to “strengthen the party in view of the upcoming state elections”

Mustaffa Kamil Ayub, who hails from Perak, Semenanjung, and who was appointed the new chief of PKR Sarawak in the state leadership revamp, acknowledged that “the initiatives taken by certain Dayak leaders to join PKR had opened the minds and eyes of their supporters so much so that they too have now joined the party”, that the “number of Dayaks in the party has increased significantly” and that “It is important, therefore, we give an emphasis to the participation of the Dayaks in the party”.

Adit was appointed a member of the state leadership council.

Last week, Malaysiakini reported that a new party called Pakatan Rakyat Malaysia would be launched in Sarawak in the next few days and that this new party would be helmed by Adit. In another report of the same date, Malaysiakini reported that when asked if he was behind this new party, Adit denied this and said “As of today, I am still a PKR member. But who knows (about) tomorrow?”.

Is PKR about to lose one who Anwar had categorised as a strong ally in Sarawak?

About the same time that the Sarawak PKR leadership was being revamped, the PKR leadership in Sabah underwent the same.

Azmin Ali, MP for Gombak, took over leadership of PKR Sabah from Anwar.

There was obviously some unhappiness with Azmin’s appointment, given his remarks just after his appointment and before he made his first trip to Sabah in this new capacity, reported in Malaysiakini, that “In Sabah PKR for example, we do have our differences as in any party, but they are not serious enough to cause a party split or prevent us from working together or with the other opposition parties”. Azmin then alluded to the appointment by Najib of Shafie Apdal, a Sabahan, as Kedah Umno and BN chief and then asked, “Does this mean that they don’t trust a Kedahan or someone from the peninsular?” and answered that question himself with “At the end of the day, when it comes to the general election, all PKR candidates in Sabah will be from the state itself. That’s what really counts”.

Last week, Malaysiakini reported that, on the night of 7th October, 16 out of a total number of 25 Sabah PKR division heads met, concurred that they had no confidence in Azmin’s leadership and communicated this to the party top leadership in KL.

More telling, that report has it that the 16 want Azmin removed from this post with immediate effect and have made it clear that “no one from outside Sabah should be appointed to head the PKR chapter in the state ever again”.

The PKR man who spoke to the Malaysiakini reporter had apparently said : “We don’t want these very imperial ketuanan Melayu (Malay political supremacy) types in Sabah. He’s ex-Umno and has not changed one bit since joining PKR”.

The 16 division chiefs have recommended to PKR HQ that Keningau division chief Jeffrey Kitingan be appointed as the new Sabah chief to replace Azmin.

I called my source in Kota Kinabalu last Thursday to find out what was going on.

That source put me in touch with two PKR Sabah individuals who are very much in the know.

One a Muslim, the other a Catholic. Both locals.

Both were initially reluctant to divulge anything, their concern being that I might disclose their identity or that I might not report anything adverse they might say of PKR or Anwar.

As to whether they could hold me to my word that I would not disclose their names under any circumstances whatsoever, I asked them to check back with the source that had hooked me up with them.

As to their other concern, I assured them that any statements of fact adverse of PKR or Anwar, substantiated with evidence, and in the interest of the rakyat that the same be made public, would be reported. Statements of opinion, if fair, and not amounting to a personal attack, would be treated similarly.

I assured them that I was neither a PKR or Anwar supporter. I was for the rakyat.

They checked with my source and came back to me on Friday with a lot to say.

Appointing ‘outsiders’: Wrong move by PKR

For the sake of giving an honest view of this subject, allow me as a Sarawakian to call a spade a spade.

While I can readily call myself a Malaysian, at times not with much pride (for obvious reasons), I will also consider those from Peninsular Malaysia ‘outsiders’. By that, I mean they are not Sarawakians but “Orang Malaya”.

I’m sorry but I have to say this. Because of the ways so many events have been played out in our nation, I have yet to fully grasp the 1Malaysia Concept espoused by our prime minister. To me, Najib Abdul Razak’s slogan is also nothing new. We have been talking about one Malaysia since Independence.

The term ‘outsider’ can be considered quite ‘undiplomatic’. It connotes an unwanted presence – as ‘outsiders’ mean those not from within but, as its name implies, outside.

However, I have no qualms about using the word when discussing politics. It’s all part of straight talking as politics is also about the art of courageously using the ‘wrong’ word (deliberately even) at the correct time when situations warrant it.

Let me try to give a clearer explanation by reviewing the situation of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Sarawak and Sabah today.

In March this year, PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim took over as state PKR chairman in Sarawak and Sabah. To party members in the two East Malaysian states, Anwar is considered an ‘outsider’. He is not a resident from either state.

Anwar an 'acceptable' outsider

Well, the PKR boss may have valid reasons for doing so. Previous chairmen of the party’s state liaison committees in the two states might not have lived up to his expectation. So in a move to revamp and improve the set-up of his party in Sabah and Sarawak, Anwar took over as its chair.

So far, there were no complaints from party leaders and members in the two states. If there were any, it did not enter the public domain. So we can assume all was okay.

Anwar also has the clout and stature even though he is an outsider. We can conclude that he was an acceptable outsider to PKR members in Sabah and Sarawak.

Two months later, however, Anwar gave up the posts citing heavy commitments at home and abroad. He just could not give much of his time nor attention to party affairs in Sarawak and Sabah.

He appointed two persons to replace him. Party vice-president Mustaffa Kamil Ayub took over the Sarawak chair while another veep, Azmin Ali, the Sabah side.

And I believe this is when problems started to arise within PKR in the two East Malaysian states. And this is where the term ‘outsiders’ has a very negative connotation.

Right from the time when their appointments were announced, many local PKR leaders in Sarawak and Sabah already did not take it too kindly.

With due respect to the two gentlemen, Mustaffa and Azmin just do not possess the Anwar charisma nor stature to lead the party in the two states. In short, they were ‘unacceptable outsiders’.

I think I am able to appreciate and understand local sentiments. If I were a PKR member (which I am not) I would find it difficult to accept Mustaffa as my top leader in Sarawak.

Think of the reversed situation

Why? Simple. I don’t even know him. I wonder how many PKR leaders and members in Sarawak know who he is.

He may be a good and able leader but that’s not the point. The issue is why a local Sarawakian or Sabahan not appointed to head the party in their own states. Why appoint ‘outsiders’?

Put it this way. Try appointing Gabriel Adit to head Selangor PKR or Dominique Ng to lead Penang PKR and see whether they could be accepted by party leaders and members in those two states.

Local sentiments will make it difficult for them to function effectively there because Adit and Ng are considered outsiders in Selangor and Penang.

Similarly, I doubt PKR people in Malacca or Negri Sembilan would be able to accept Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, a Sabahan, as their state chief. Why? Because Jeffrey is an outsider.

Anwar Ibrahim had said that the appointments of Mustaffa and Azmin were only temporary but a mistake has been made, even if it is only a temporary mistake. Damage has been done.

Anwar should have allowed senior PKR leaders to elect an acceptable local leader from among themselves. In Sarawak, don’t tell me that people like Nicholas Bawin, Baru Bian, Jewah Gerang, Adit, Dominique and others are not qualified nor suitable to lead the party in the state.

Granted, they may have differences among themselves (but isn’t that normal in politics) but a local leader, and not an outsider, would still be the more preferred and acceptable choice.

DAP has done very well in this aspect. All their leaders in Sabah and Sarawak are locals. PKR can learn a thing or two from their ally in Pakatan Rakyat.

It’s the same situation in Sabah. Why were Jeffrey Kitingan, Ansari Abdullah or Kong Hong Ming not appointed to head Sabah PKR?

Why was Azmin Ali appointed instead? What is so right about Azmin that is so wrong with Jeffrey, Ansari or Kong Hong Ming.

As far as I know, these three are very senior politicians and Azmin can be considered very junior in comparison.

In Sarawak, Gabriel Adit is a five-term state assemblyman and Jewah Gerang is a veteran MP. Mustaffa is nowhere near Adit or Jewah in terms of experience and seniority in politics. So how can you expect these veterans to accept a junior as their boss.

And let’s not forget that most politicians have very big ego.

The notion of finding a ‘neutral’ man to lead in Sabah and Sarawak does not hold in this case. Local sentiments is paramount. It’s a pity Anwar did not pay much attention to this…or did he?

Trouble brewing

Last week, we begin to see tension and disillusionment within the ranks of PKR in Sarawak and Sabah. I believe it has a lot to do with the ‘outsider’ issue.

Gabriel Adit is on the way to form a new party, speculated to be named Pakatan Rakyat Sarawak. His party is scheduled to be launched on Oct 15. Ten months ago, he was given a rousing welcome when he joined PKR.

Where did Adit or PKR go wrong? We can continue to speculate but at the end of it all, Adit must have realized that PKR may not be the political platform he was looking for.

Over in Sabah, a group of division chiefs have expressed no confidence in the leadership of recently appointed state chief Azmin Ali. They wanted Azmin removed and proposed Jeffrey Kitingan to take over.

Azmin had since responded that he was prepared to give up the Sabah chair and would notify Anwar of his decision.

It is clear in the case of Sabah that the PKR leadership was wrong to have appointed an ‘outsider’ to head the party in the state.

Anwar Ibrahim will have some soul-searching to do and must act quickly as trouble is already brewing within his party in Sabah and Sarawak where he is, unfortunately, also an ‘outsider’.

PBTM Sarawak Batu Kawa Branch’s fund raising dinner — ‘Warriors’ Appeal’ -Where Were The Dayak Leaders and Politicians?

First of all I would like to salute Encik Tiles and his team, the Working Committee members of the Ex-Service Association Batu Kawah Branch Dinner for such a brilliant effort in organizing such a memorable dinner. As for myself, after leaving the services for about 10 years ago, this was the first time that I attended the function organized by the ex-service association. The dinner on 17th October 2009, if not because of Encik Jiram (my colleague and one the Committee member of the dinner) I would not had attended. The dinner which was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Mohammad Ali Mahmud who is also the Muara Tuang assemblyman. Also attended the function were Opar assemblyman Ranum Mina, Nangka assemblyman Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, and Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip. I did not see any of the Iban assemblymen(except for YB Ranum Mina who attended as a virtue of he himself a member of the ex-service association) and the rest of the Iban politicians who have been claiming themselves as the fighters of the Iban rights such as the NCR and etc.

Where are the Iban and the politicians from Pakatan Rakyat? PBB Politicians and Assemblymen....I Salute You

If we read the program book for the night, one will see that majority if not all of the PGP/SP recipients listed in the book were Iban. Where were all of the Iban ministers and politicians. Majority if not all of the VVIPs that present that night were from PBB and Malay/Melanau ministers and YBs. To all of these YBs, on behalf of the Iban ex-Service Association members…I Salute You!

But that night will be more memorable if the cost for each of the request songs for that night could be reduced from RM 50 to RM 20 per request. The RM 50 per request was to expensive for the members to bear with the cost.

Some of the activities of the night were the speech by Datuk Awang Tengah which was read by Muara Tuang Assemblymen, presentation of the donation mock cheques by corporate bodies and the presentation of the education Assistance to the children of the members of the association that excelled in their studies.

In his speech , Tengah urged all the 200,000 ex-servicemen in Sarawak to join the association. He described it as a “poor show from the braves of the country”.

In term of the management of the association, he urged those leading at state and branch levels to learn from the strengths and weaknesses of their former leaders so as to be able to bring elements of freshness to the association.

“Only if PBTM is seen as dynamic would more ex-soldiers be drawn to it,” Tengah said .

Urging PBTM members to be sensitive to changing times and life’s reality, Tengah said the association should be re-engineered to be more effective in serving the interest of members.

“For instance, get rid of old ideas because these are like time bombs to the association, and work out a strategic masterplan so that members feel it is worth every minute of the day being members of the association,” he said.

I Agree with YB Awang Ali Tengah. But what about the leaders that has been clinging  on to power for more than 20 years shall they be changed also!

He also called on those who had yet to become members to do so, saying: “If you join the association, yours and your family’s welfare will be better taken care of and you can have a platform to voice your views.”

Najib declares Malaysia Day a holiday

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today declared Sept 16, which is Malaysia Day, as a national holiday from next year, in his latest move to portray his administration as inclusive.

By making Malaysia Day a holiday he is also indicating the importance of the Sabah and Sarawak vote given the balance of politics between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

The move to finally declare Sept 16 a holiday appears aimed at giving Sabah and Sarawak due recognition as part of the country.

Malaysia was formed on Sept 16, 1963, and it has always been a sore point with Sabah and Sarawak that the day they joined the federation was never recognised officially as a holiday. The holiday declaration also takes away a perennial campaign complain by opposition parties.

Successive BN governments have ignored calls to make Malaysia Day a holiday. Najib’s administration is now acknowledging the significance of the votes from Sabah and Sarawak.

The timing of today’s announcement also comes at a time when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s PKR appears on the verge of collapse in Sabah and Sarawak.

PKR is facing an open revolt in the two states with local members upset that party leaders had appointed two men from Peninsular Malaysia as state chiefs.

Anwar had already predicted early on that Sabah and Sarawak would be key in PR’s efforts to take Putrajaya. But PKR’s attempts at making inroads in the two states appear to be stillborn. Najib’s Umno and BN maintains a stranglehold on support in the two states.

With the Malaysia Day announcement, BN is set to strengthen its vote bank further. In Election 2008, BN remained in power largely due to strong support from Sabah and Sarawak voters.

Najib told Parliament today that Merdeka Day on Aug 31 will continue to be celebrated to commemorate the struggle against the colonial government.

He added that the Malaysia Day celebration would be filled with events promoting unity, racial understanding and the nation's achievements. “Malaysians will celebrate two national days,” Najib said.

He said the decision to declare another public holiday was made at a Cabinet meeting recently.

PR, in an attempt to canvass for support in Sabah and Sarawak, has been accusing the federal government of downplaying the significance of Malaysia Day.

In an immediate reaction, Anwar thanked the Prime Minister for implementing what he called PR's proposal. “Thank you for accepting PR's suggestion,” Anwar wrote on his twitter site.

Pemantauan Pilihanraya Kecil Bagan Pinang-Kredibiliti Dua Agensi Kerajaan SPR dan SPRM(MACC) Dipertikaikan

Walaupun menurut Seksyen 19(1) (a) dan (b) Akta Kesalahan Pilihan Raya 1954, calon-calon yang bertanding dalam pilihan raya umum hendaklah berbelanja tidak melebihi had yang ditetapkan iaitu untuk calon Parlimen RM200,000 dan calon DUN RM100,000, tetapi setakat ini sejauh manakah SPR atau MACC memantau mana-mana calon pilihanraya agar mematuhinya.

Semenjak PU12-2008 sebanyak 9 pilihanraya kecil (PK) telah diadakan. Setiap kali ianya diadakan BN akan membelanjakan berjuta-juta ringgit di dalam bentuk perlaksanaan projek oleh BN demi untuk merasuah para pengundi. Daripada sembilan PK ini, BN telah berjaya memenangi 2 daripadanya. Dan dikedua-dua tempat di Batang Ai dan Bagan Pinang, BN telah merahsuah pengundi dan berjaya di dalam kedua-dua kawasan berkenaan. Di lubok Antu BN telah menabur projek pembangunan bernilai beratus juta ringgit di samping wang poket berjumlah ratusan ringgit untuk setiap pengundi. Di Bagan Pinang seperti yang dilaporkan oleh Sarawak Headhunter ,BN bukan hanya menggunakan wang saku serta projek pembangunan untuk membeli undi tetapi makanan kering juga turut telah digunakan.

Di sebalik bukti-bukti yang dilaporkan oleh bloggers, apakah tindakan kedua-dua ajensi kerajaan berkenaan? Sememangnya rakyat Malaysia serta dunia sedia maklum, bahawa hasrat kerajaan Najib untuk menghapuskan rasuah hanya rethoric semata-mata (tidak menghairankan kerana Najib sendiri merupakan pemimpin yang korup begitu jua kebanyakan pemimpin-pemimpin di dalam UMNO yang lain (malahan Tan Sri Isa sendiri yang baru memenangi PK Bagan Pinang merupan seorang pemimpin yang korup).

Cuba perhatikan sekiranya perkara yang sama berlaku kepada PAKATAN. Sedangkan saudara Teoh Beng Hock, hanya kerana mahu mengaitkannya dengan tuduhan rasuah bernilai kurang daripada RM 200, dia telah disiasat dengan tidak berperikemanusiaan serta menemui ajal.

Saya merasa tertarik dengan laporan yang dibuat oleh National Institute for Electoral Integrity (NIEI) dan disiarkan di dalam Merdeka Review bertarikh 12 Okt 2009. NIEI melaporkan seperti berikut :

National Institute for Electoral Integrity (NIEI) telah memantau perjalanan pilihanraya kecil (PRK) bagi kerusi DUN Bagan Pinang (N 31) bermula dari hari penamaan calon pada 3 Oktober sehinggalah berakhirnya proses pengundian pada 11 Oktober 2009.

Di dalam pemantauan pilihanraya, terdapat dua kaedah yakni stationary monitoring (pemantau ditugaskan untuk tunggu di setiap tempat mengundi) dan mobile monitoring (pemantau bergerak).

NIEI menggunakan kaedah mobile monitoring di mana pemantau-pemantau NIEI bergerak untuk memantau perjalanan pilihanraya di dalam kawasan N 31 bermula dari proses penamaan calon, tempoh berkempen dan hari mengundi.

Di dalam pemantauan NIEI di kerusi N 31, terdapat beberapa perkara yang telah mencemarkan PRK yang seharusnya telus, bebas dan adil. Di antaranya ialah:

1.Ketidaktelusan pengundian pos

Terdapat dakwaan bahawa senarai pengundi pos tentera yang diwartakan dan diberikan kepada calon-calon yang bertanding berbeza dari senarai pengundi pos tentera yang dipaparkan pada hari mengundi pos 8 dan 9 Oktober 2009.

Selain daripada itu, terdapat juga dakwaan bahawa terdapat pengundi-pengundi pos yang didaftarkan lebih dari satu kem serta pesara-pesara tentera masih lagi terdapat dalam daftar pengundi pos.Yang lebih menyedihkan lagi, SPR langsung tidak mengendahkan syak wasangka ini dan tidak membersihkan nama mereka dan maruah sebagai badan penggendali pilihanraya tidak dipertahankan.Oleh yang demikian, bagi memastikan proses pengundian pos tidak lagi dipertikaikan pada masa akan datang, NIEI mencadangkan agar kaedah dan prosedur pengundian pos hendaklah dikaji semula dan diubah supaya ianya telus dan diyakini oleh rakyat.

Dari pengalaman pemerhatian NIEI di luar negara, Thailand dan Filipina yang mengalami konflik ganas, pengundian secara normal digunakan bagi anggota tentera mereka. Pusat pengundian yang dikendali sepenuhnya oleh SPR - serta hak-hak yang sama bagi agen parti, pemantau tempatan dan pemerhati antrabangsa - dibuka di dalam kem-kem tentera.

Jika terdapat undi pos tentera, ianya akan dikendalikan sepenuhnya oleh SPR negara tersebut. Tidak timbul langsung kontraversi senarai nama pengundi anggota tentera di sana.

2. Rasuah politik, penyalahgunaan jentera kerajaan dan politik janji

Rasuah politik, penyalahgunaan jentera kerajaan dan politik janji masih lagi berleluasa dalam PRK N 31 Bagan Pinang. Pemberiaan projek-projek kerajaan kepada penduduk Bagan Pinang semasa tempoh berkempen dilakukan secara berleluasa. Banyak kementerian-kementerian seperti Kementerian Penerangan, Kementerian Pertanian dan Asas Tani, Kementerian Pendidikan serta Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna digunakan untuk memberikan "rasuah politik" kepada pengundi Bagan Pinang secara terbuka.

Selain daripada itu, penyalahgunaan jentera kerajaan turut dilakukan secara berleluasa. Kedua-dua pihak yang bertanding dilihat menyalahgunakan harta rakyat terutama kenderaan milik kerajaan Persekutuan, Negeri dan Tempatan. Manakala UMNO-BN memonopoli dewan orang ramai, sekolah, KEMAS dan JKKK sebagai markas parti.

Amalan ini adalah satu kesalahan besar kerana seharusnya harta milik kementerian, kerajaan negeri dan pihak berkuasa tempatan tidak boleh digunakan bagi parti-parti politik yang bertanding semasa berkempen dalam pilihanraya.

Untuk memastikan pilihanraya akan datang adil kepada semua pihak yang bertanding, NIEI mencadangkan agar politik wang, janji peruntukan projek, projek kilat, salahguna jentera negara dan salahguna kemudahan awam hendaklah dihapuskan.

Di negara-negara jiran, terutamanya Thailand, Nepal dan Taiwan amalan ini diharamkan. Kesalahan bersabit dengannya akan diambil tindakan keras, iaitu SPR-nya akan membatalkan calon bersalah daripada bertanding, atau dibatalkan kemenangan mereka.

Untuk menghapuskan amalan ini, undang-undang anti rasuah politik dan penyalahgunaan harta awam hendaklah digubal seperti yang dilaksanakan di Thailand dan Taiwan.

3. Perayu undi, tukang sorak dan pengangkutan yang disediakan oleh parti politik pada hari mengundi

Amalan merayu undi dan tukang sorak telah menyebabkan ketegangan berlaku pada hari mengundi. Apabila perayu-perayu undi dari kedua-dua parti politik bersaing untuk merayu undi berhampiran dengan tempat pembuangan undi, ianya menggangu pengundi-pengundi untuk melaksanakan tanggungjawab mereka.

Selain daripada itu kemudahan pengangkutan yang disediakan oleh parti politik untuk mengangkut pengundi turut menyesakkan keadaan di hadapan tempat pembuangan undi yang biasanya dilaksanakan di sekolah.

Bagi memastikan pengundi-pengundi dapat berfikir dengan tenang sebelum masuk ke tempat pembuangan undi, NIEI menyarankan agar amalan merayu undi, tukang sorak dan penyediaan kemudahan pengangkutan untuk mengangkut pengundi dihapuskan.

Sebagai ganti, tempoh berkempen bolehlah diperpanjang seperti dua minggu bagi pilihanraya kecil dan sebulan bagi pilihanraya umum. Parti-parti politik bukan kerajaan yang sering tidak mendapat tempat di media arus perdana aktif berkempen pada hari mengundi oleh kerana tidak mendapat liputan yang adil oleh media arus perdana dan tempoh berkempen yang singkat, jika tempoh berkempen diperpanjangkan, semua pihak akan mendapat masa yang cukup untuk berkempen.

Selain daripada itu, SPR bolehlah menyediakan kenderaan untuk mengangkut pengundi seperti van, kereta dan motosikal sebagai alternatif kepada kenderaan-kenderaan yang disediakan oleh parti politik.

4. Perbelanjaan berkempen

Dalam PRK Bagan Pinang, dapat disimpulkan bahawa perbelanjaan yang digunakan untuk berkempen bagi calon BN, Isa Samad telahpun melebihi had yang ditetapkan iaitu RM 100,000 bagi calon DUN.

Menurut Seksyen 19(1) (a) dan (b) Akta Kesalahan Pilihan Raya 1954, calon-calon yang bertanding dalam pilihan raya umum hendaklah berbelanja tidak melebihi had yang ditetapkan iaitu untuk calon Parlimen RM200,000 dan calon DUN RM100,000.

Akta ini harus digubal semula dan harus menyatakan bahawa ianya termasuklah kepada parti politik yang menyokong sesuatu calon tersebut. Kerjasama dengan Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (MACC) bolehlah dilakukan untuk memperketatkan lagi pemantauan perbelanjaan kempen.

NIEI berharap agar isu-isu yang dibangkitan akan diambil perhatian serius oleh SPR agar perjalanan pilihanraya di Malaysia dapat menjadi lebih baik pada masa akan datang. Semua parti politik yang bertanding diseru agar bekerjasama bagi memastikan proses perjalanan pilihanraya di Malaysia menjadi lebih adil, telus dan saksama. Pilihanraya yang berkredibiliti akan meyakinkan lagi rakyat dengan amalan demokrasi di Malaysia.

Sarawak natives go to court over controversial dam construction

KUCHING – Six villagers from two settlements in upper Bengoh district have gone to court in an attempt to stop the building of the planned RM310mil Bengoh dam, covering about 1,600ha.

Once completed, the dam would store about 144.1 million cubic metres of water, which will be supplied to the Batu Kitang treatment plant. This would increase the plant’s current capacity of 786 mega-litre per day (MLD) to 2,047 MLD for use by consumers in Kuching and Kota Samarahan.

However, it will also affect four settlements - Kampung Tebak Sait, Kampung Bojong Pain, Kampung Rejoi and Kampung Semban, involving some 394 families.

Villagers Simo anak Sekam, Tasek anak Ayau, Eddie anak Aheng, Bodui anak Dayu, Bungai anak Bengem and Sirus anak Jon filed a suit at the Kuching High Court registry Monday morning to stop the authorities from continuing to construct the dam, alleging it affects their native customary rights (NCR) land.

Claiming on behalf of affected families

The six filed the suit, on behalf of themselves and 25 other families, proprietors, occupiers, holders and claimants of the NCR land situated at Kampung Bojong and Kampoung Rejoi. They were accompanied by lawyer See Chee How of legal firm Baru Bian Advocates and Solicitors.

See said later that the area has now been leased to a company known as Salcrajaya Sdn Bhd, a two RM2 company with Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu listed as one of the directors.

The other director is Salcra general manager, Vasco Sibat Singkang. The six villagers filed their legal action against construction team Nain Cendera Sdn Bhd (a company linked to close associates and relatives of Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud), Kuching Division superintendent of lands and surveys, the Sarawak state government and the Government of Malaysia, to stop them from continuing the construction of the dam.

“We want a prohibitory injunction restraining the first defendant (Naim Cendera) and/or its employees, servants and/or agents from trespassing, clearing, using or occupying the NCR land,” the villagers said.

They also want a mandatory injunction against Naim Cendera to cease operations and to remove all structures and equipment as well as machinery from the land concerned.

Wrong and unlawful to complete dam

In their writ they also want the court to declare that it was wrong, illegal and unlawful of the company as well as the state and Federal governments to construct and complete the proposed dam.

The villagers also want a declaration order from the court that the contract between the Federal Government and Naim Cendera to design and construct the dam, which covers the natives’ NCR land, is unlawful, improper, unconstitutional and therefore null and void.

Alternatively, they want a declaration that the contract between Federal Government and Naim Cendera that the design and construction of the proposed project does not affect the plaintiffs’ NCR title.

The villagers claim that the construction of the dam impairs the plaintiffs’ rights to property in a manner which is discriminatory and unfair.

Against the Federal constitution

They added that it was also based on criteria which are not applicable to the right to property acquired and held by non-natives.

Further and in the alternative, they said the contract between the fourth defendant (Federal Government) and the first defendant (Naim Cendera) to design and construct the dam was unconstitutional as it was issued on violation of Article 13 of the Federal Constitution (no confiscation of property without adequate compensation.)

The villagers claim damages, exemplary damages; alternately aggravated damages, interest, costs and such further or other relief the Court deems fit and just.

The villagers use historical information and documents to back their claims.

Under the plan, families affected by the building of the dam will be resettled at an area of 3,000ha near Kampung Semadang not far from Bau.

Calon tercalit dengan rasuah wang tebus maruah UMNO-BN

Akhirnya, UMNO-BN berjaya menebus maruah dengan seorang calon yang tercalit imejnya, Mohd Isa Abdul Samad apabila menamatkan kekalahan dalam pilihan raya kecil di Semenanjung Malaysia selepas 8 Mac 2008. Bekas Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan ini kembali semula ke gelanggang politik dengan kemenangan majoriti 5,435 undi di PRK Bagan Pinang. Pakatan Rakyat bukan sahaja gagal menembusi kubu UMNO-BN ini, malah gagal untuk mengurangkan undi majoriti yang diperolehi calon UMNO-BN dalam PRU ke-12. Calon PAS-PR, Zulkefly Mohamad hanya memperolehi 2,578 undi, berbanding Isa Samad yang mengaut 8,013 undi. PRK Bagan Pinang mencatat peratus pengundian setinggi 81.65%, dengan 233 undi rosak. PRU ke-12 menyaksikan kemenangan calon UMNO-BN, Allahyarham Azman Mohd. Noor dengan 6,430 undi, sementara calon PAS, Ramli Ismail memperolehi 4,097 undi. Peratus pengundian adalah 81.59%, dengan 384 undi rosak pada ketika itu. Dengan kata lain, undi majoriti yang diperolehi UMNO-BN bertambah sebanyak 3,102 undi. Malah, PRK Bagan Pinang ini memperlihatkan sokongan melangkaui kaum terhadap calon yang pernah disabitkan kesalahan kerana terlibat dalam politik wang ini. Keputusan ini diterjemahkan oleh Isa Samad sebagai sokongan rakyat terhadap konsep "1Malaysia" yang diuar-uarkan oleh PM Najib Razak.

UMNO: Kemelut atau harapan baru?

Keputusan PRK ini biarpun memacu momentum baru kepada UMNO-BN, bahkan mewujudkan suasana yang cukup mengghairahkan menjelang Perhimpunan Agung UMNO yang bakal berlangsung dalam minggu ini. Kemenangan yang didahagakan selama 19 bulan selepas "tsunami politik" ini, semestinya disambut dengan pujian yang melimpah dalam perhimpunan UMNO. Persoalannya, apa yang akan berlaku seandainya Isa Samad dinobatkan sebagai wira yang menebus maruah UMNO? Perebutan kuasa yang bakal tercetus sememangnya tidak dapat dielakkan. Kedudukan Mohamad Hassan sebagai Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan mungkin terguling, malah kedudukan Timbalan Presiden Muhyiddin Yassin juga mungkin tergugat. Muhyiddin Yassin, memikul tugas sebagai Pengarah Pilihan Raya BN setelah mengambil alih jawatan Timbalan Presiden UMNO. Bermula dengan PRK Bukit Gantang, Bukit Selambau, Batang Ai, Manek Urai dan berakhir di Permatang Pasir, hanya satu kemenangan dikecapi, itu pun di luar Semenanjung Malaysia. Maka, jasa kemenangan kali ini akan dikalungkan pada leher Isa Samad, terutamanya oleh penyokong setianya dalam UMNO. Apa yang lebih penting daripada itu, pencalonan dan kemenangan besar Isa Samad semestinya diterjemahkan sebagai penerimaan rakyat terhadap pemimpin yang tercalit dengan rasuah. Maka, pemimpin seperti Ali Rustam, Muhd Muhd Taib dan pemimpin-pemimpin yang pernah tercalar imej itu, mempunyai alasan yang cukup munasabah untuk bangkit semula dalam parti. Lebih-lebih lagi, penolakan rakyat dalam pilihan raya kecil sebelum ini akan dibaca sebagai "terpukau dengan janji dan pembohongan pembangkang", dan bukannya tuntutan untuk perubahan. Oleh itu, "rakyat yang kini sedar dari mimpi dan khayalan " telah kembali menyokong UMNO-BN.

Pengajaran untuk PR

Walaupun kekalahan sememangnya dijangkakan dari awal, namun kekalahan dengan majoriti yang besar tetap merupakan tamparan sengit kepada PAS-PR. PR didodoikan dengan suasana yang memberangsangkan selepas tsunami politik PRU ke-12. Kekalahan PRK Bagan Pinang pasti memberi pengajaran kepada PR dalam beberapa aspek. Pertamanya, usaha menuntut sistem pilihan raya yang adil dan bersih sebelum ini terbantut, setelah kemenangan dalam PRU ke-12. Kawasan seperti Bagan Pinang menyedarkan PR bahawa isu ketidakadilan dalam sistem pilihan raya masih belum selesai. Keduanya, PR melihat bahawa rakyat tetap akan memberi sokongan kepada PR, berdasarkan betapa buruknya BN, dan tidak mengambil kira sejauh manakah prestasi dan mutu PR. Perbalahan sesama sendiri dalam PR dianggap akan mendapat toleransi daripada rakyat kerana "ia sekadar mainan media, atau diperbesarkan oleh media". Pengundi Bagan Pinang memberi jawapan yang sememangnya di luar jangkaan PR. Persoalan kini yang wajib direnungi PR ialah, berapa lagi Bagan Pinang yang ada di Malaysia?

Gabriel Adit The Man Of No Principle!

If Adit (Gabriel Adit) is involve in the formation of Parti Pakatan Rakyat Malaysia in Sarawak...I Lost my words and only have this for him "Adit…FU$K YOU man, You are no different from Jemut Masing the man that you hate most! But deep inside me I hope the news was not real"

Last Friday 9th October 2009,  I made the above comment in Dayak Nation . I was so frustrated,  how can the same man who few  months ago had said that  he found a perfect political vehicle in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) today involve or instrument  in the formation of Pakatan Rakyat Malaysia party (PRM). If the news is real, following questions need to be answered: (1) What is Adit motive? I did not see any strong reason why Adit willing to form a new party a such move could jeorpardize his political carrier.  Jabu or Masing will not going to accept it  into BN fold. And if such party is with  opposition , will DAP, PAS and PKR willing to create a pack with it? 

(2) If Adit is really involve in the formation of this  new party, who is behind him? I am not able to answer question 2 eventhought some said that two disgrace ex-BN leaders were behind it. The news sound logic but why did they choose Adit in the first place? Adit is not a charasmatic leader. He is only popular in his hometown Kanowit. In Kuching he is known as Tok Janggut, the man  who frequently loitering around in  the Sports Toto outlet around Tabuan Laru .

Going back to question 1 about Adit motive. Frankly I felt that Adit involvement is driven by these two motives : (a) Monetery gain - probably he has been offered by BN to weaken PR strength in Sarawak. Adit knows that his political career  is toward an end...at this moment money means a lot for him.In Perak, BN was so desperade to wrest it from Pakatan that it willing to spend  few millions ringgit in order to get three  PKR Assemblyman defection to BN. Here in Sarawak, Taib who is known as one of the richest politicians in Malaysia/Sarawak, will be willing to offer Adit with substantial amount, probably more than the amount  offered by Najib in Perak.

(b) The next reason will be more interesting. (If this is thge reason, I am salute you YB). He wants to send signal to Anwar and other PKR leaders in KL  that Iban should be given a bigger role in PKR. With its population of more than  30% of Sarawak total population, Iban should be given  a bigger role and not just a Pimpinan Negeri, a potfolio which is not very clear. Although PKR is a multi-racial party, but special attention must be given to the Iban. Iban compare to the Malay (who has been well taken care by PBB), should be give special attention. If PKR is serious to penetrate into Iban areas, they must be given with bigger role.

To YB Adit, I hope the news was not true. If it was true, I hope you still can remember on what you had  said about PKR and the reasons why you joined the party struggle. As for PKR leaders in KL, I am indoubt whether Iban can rely on PKR to fight for our struggle. I wrote about  this here.

For conclusion,  I have this for YB Adit :-

“Forget your enemies. It's your friends you frustrate that cause all the problems.”

"They Both Have To Go - Ong Tee Keat VS 10 Million Scandal ; Chua Soi Lek VS Sex Scandal!"

KUALA LUMPUR: The results of MCA' EGM vote have been released. Both Ong Tee Keat and Chua Soi Lek have to go.
The first resolution (no-confidence vote against Ong Tee Keat) was passed with 1,155 votes for and 1,141 votes against. There were eight spoilt votes.
Although the party constitution has not specified that a party president given the no-confidence vote must quit, Ong Tee Keat has said he would do so if he was voted out.
The second resolution (annulment of all of the presidential council's decisions on Chua Soi Lek on August 26) was also passed, with 1,204 votes for, 1,095 against and five spoilt votes, meaning Chua will have his membership, which has been frozen for four year, reinstated.
However, Chua is not able to assume his deputy presidency as the third resolution (restoration of Chua's deputy presidency) has been denied by central delegates, with 1,110 votes for and 1,184 against, ten spoilt votes.

Bagan Pinang By-Election-The Fight Between Quality Leader and Convicted Corrupt Leader

"To the Voters in Bagan Pinang , Let's Make the Score to 9-1"

Bagan Pinang by election is a ninth by-election since 2008 General Elections. It was triggering by the suidden demised of the BN state assemblyman Azman Mohd. Noor due to heart attack at the Seremban Specialist Centre on September 4, 2009.

The Election Commission has fixed the polling day on October 11 2009. On the nomination day on October 3, only 2 candidates submitted their nomination paper. UMNO picked their former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Tan Sri Isa Samad to contest the Bagan Pinang by-election.

Isa Samad currently is popular with the grassroots in UMNO but is tainted, having been suspended for three years from the party for buying votes during the 2004 party elections.PAS on September 28, 2009 named Negri Sembilan state commissioner, Zulkefly Mohamad Omar as its candidate for the Bagan Pinang state by-election.

Based on the background for both of the candidates, it is obvious the fight in Bagan Pinang is a fight of between quality and quantity. UMNO or BN is desperate to win the by-election after losing nearly all of the by-election since 2008 General Elections which it contested. So far UMNO or BN have only won one seat out of the 8 seats that they contested (most political analysis believed that BN won batang Ai by-election was contributed  by the rampant abused of power by Taib Mahmud cronies not becaused of BN actual strength).

Even though the coming election result will not effect BN simple majority in Negeri Sembilan but BN win is going to be very important to them. UMNO will do whatever it takes to win this election. For them the quality of the candidate is not important. Tan Sri Isa image has been tainted with corruption and at first was not chosen as the candidate by UMNO HQ (Please see picture) ) but due to the pressure from his supporters in Bagan Pinang, UMNO was left with no choice but to field him as their candidate. Tan Sri Isa candidacy has been opposed by Tun Dr Mahathir, Malaysian 4th Prime Minister. Mahathir in his blog Chedet, suggested that UMNO should not fielding the Negeri Sembilan ex-Chief Minister for 22 years if the party want to be seen as serious in tackling money politic. But due to Isa Samad strong grassroot support, in order to win the election UMNO was left with no choice but to nominate it corrupt leader as it candidate.

Whereas PAS has chosen Negri Sembilan PAS commissioner Zulkefly Mohamad Omar as the candidate for the Bagan Pinang. Zulkefly, who holds a Master of Science degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia, is currently the managing director of his own consultancy, L & R Enterprise Sdn Bhd. When talking to the reporters, Zulkefly said he hoped the voters would give him a chance to lead the constituency.

“We want to bring change to the state constituency. If I am elected, I will put in my best service for the rakyat, according to their needs,” he told reporters after Abdul Hadi made the announcement.

“We are contesting this seat only to bring change to the people and it is up to the wisdom of the voters to choose who they think can best bring this change,” Zulkefly said.

In term of the background, Zulkefli is scandal free and clean if compare to Isa Samad who has been tainted with corruption. If this government is sincere in combating corruption amongst the politicians or government servant,  and if we adopt the same approach with China, Tan Sri Isa should has been punished with the DEATH PENALTY!

The voters in Bagan Pinang, the D-Day is another two more days from today. Sunday, 11th October 2009 will determine whether you will be representing by PAS candidate, the corruption free leader or by UMNO leader, the man who has been proven corrupted and dirty, aand  who during his reign as the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan had recieved "kick back" from the development projects in PD.
