Communist Insurgency In Malaya-The Documentary is A Farce Without Even Mentioning The Roles Of Sarawak Ranger

Kuching
Friday, 17th September 2010

I watched several times the screening of National Geographic documentary " The Emergency in Malaya" specially filmed in conjunction with the National Day celebration recently. The documentary detailed the "undeclared war" where the Communist terrorists (termed by the British) tried to capture Malaya and rule her in accordance with the Communist ideology, doctrine and principles. The British colonists, at all cost, must stop this spread of communism, resulting in a series of bloody battles, mainly fought guerrila warfare style in both the cruel, dense, malaria infested Malayan jungles as well as its rural areas, plantations and tin mines.

Both sides suffered tremendously. Even the British Governor was ambushed and shot dead. Thousands of lives were lost, some very dishonourably.
The documentary narrowed down personalities, events, methods, tactics and the rest; Templer, Briggs, The SB, the New Village, the rationed system of limitations even on rice supply, the
central cooking, the orang asli Sg Praq, the barbed wired village, the turncoats, the secret murders; EXCEPT THE SARAWAK RANGERS!

These trackers despite their contributions to Malaya, had never been awarded with any medal by Malaysian government.

How on earth the National Geographic Producers, Scriptwriters and the researchers MISSED the roles played by the SARAWAK RANGERS? THE MOSTLY DAYAK Soldiers died there for
Malaya (not Malaysia). How on earth would the bloody British soldiers patrolled the cruel and merciless jungles of Malaya, fresh from England, some even barely 20 years old, without the help of the Dayak trackers?

Their Skills in Jungle Tracking were no matched by any soldiers  in the whole world but their contributions were not recognised by Malaysian Government. Jabu and Masing, now both of you can open your mouths!

Even to this bloody day, the ex-Army association still tried to relocate several graves of the Dayak Soldiers who died during the Emergency, seen scattered all over, even by the roadside in West Malaysia, testimonies of them fighting and being killed, and buried unceremoniously. FOR WHAT? FOR WHOM?

Sorry, I have to stop here...angry and feel betrayed like shit! Am sorry for the KANANGS, THE RENTAPS, and..the list goes on and on...unnoticed and forgotten forever...!

Ibi Uding We Know What You Did Last Election In Year 2006

Kuching
Tuesday,14th September 2010

For Some politicians, Politic is just like Business, Taking  the Best Opportunity on the Right Time.....

Revisited Ibi Uding Campaign Trail in
Year 2006 State Election

Before the 12th General Election (GE12) Perak was a Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold. But in GE12, Pakatan Rakyat made history in Perak by defeating Barisan Nasional by 31 to 28 Seats. But the Pakatan Rakyat victory was short-lived when the 3 lawmakers from PR deserted the alliance and declared their supports for Barisan Nasional. The three lawmakers were Hee Yit Foong the Deputy Speaker from DAP, and two senior state Executive Council member from PKR Jamaluddin Mohd. Radzi and Osman Jailu.
According to the grapevine all the three lawmakers who deserted PR were offered with substantial amount of monies, award with datukship and for Jamaluddin and Osman Jailu their corruption cases were dropped.

Pakatan Rakyat in Sarawak especially Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) should learn from Perak fiasco by paying extra attention in selecting its candidates for the coming state election. Personally I would like to advise the party not to select the candidate to represent the party in the coming state or parliamentary elections from these two categories. Firstly, the members  who join the party because they were unwanted by Barisan Nasional, and secondly, the members who join the party because they want to stand in the election.
But today I want to write about a party member just to be selected as a candidate, and later after winning the election, join BN with big offer!

Becomes Candidate For Business

Ever heard about candidates who withdrew their candidacy in the  last minutes, or who announced their supports to the opposing candidate immediately after the nomination closed?. There are many possibilities of such actions. One of the possible cause is the candidate is offered with substantial amount of monies.

One of the politician who had betrayed her voters was Ibi Uding, the current Woman Chief of  Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak . Ibi who stood in N25-Balai Ringin under Sarawak National Party (SNAP) ticket against Snowdan Lawan (BN) and Saudara Cubbold John (Ind) during the state election in year 2006, according to her campaign partners had received the offer from YB Snowdan Lawan and his father, ex-YB Donald Lawan. Even though she did not withdraw her candidacy officially, but after the meeting , she immediately discontinued her campaign. .

TR Bidi Saw Ibi  had Meeting  With YB Snowdan and his Father at PRS Operation Room at Simpang Punda and after that she stopped her campaign Program

Relating what happened on that day, one of Ibi Uding campaign team member TR Bidi (picture above) from Empili  said :

" On Sunday, 14th May *2006 at about 4.00PM, I saw Pelie ak Jumbu and Ibi Uding  meeting with YB Snowdan lawan and Donal Lawan at PRS Operation Room at Simpang Punda."

"Immediately after the meeting, Ibi Uding stopped her campaign", said TR Bidi.

Another witness who saw the meeting was  Beisy ak Ringan from Bayur.

As the meeting were between the four, there was no information on the amount of monies received by Ibi. But the reliable source to Bukittunggal said that Pelie ak Jumbu were given RM10K by Ibi.

In the election Snowdan Lawan secured 3,075 votes, Ibi Uding  1,559 votes and Saudara Cubbold  742 votes. Should Ibi did not accept Snowdan offer, and proceed with her campaign, the result of the election could be different or won by her.

If PKR want to win N25-Balai Ringin with the candidate reliable to PKR struggle, the party should not nominate Ibi as the party's candidate. Based on what happened in 2006 election, if she is chosen as a candidate, the tendency is there that she will betray the party by repeating what she had done in year 2006. For Ibi , election is just like doing business. She will accept the monies, if not during the election by withdrawing her candidacy, she will follow the actions of the three pakatan law makers in Perak.
According to reliable source both TR Bidi and Beisy were willing to give statement to PKR Disciplinary Committee if  request by the party.

Conclusion/Recommendation

As reported by the two witnesses, TR Bidi from Empili and Beisi ak Ringan from Bayur, Ibi Uding had accpted monies from YB Snowdan Lawan and Donald Lawan in the state election held in year 2006. Even though no amount of money was revealed but  the grapevine said Pelie ak Jumbu was given RM10K by Ibi.

The party should not gamble the future of  the voters in N-25 Balai Ringin by selecting Ibi Uding as their candidate in the coming state election.

The party should find a reliable and good  party members as a candidate in the coming state election for N25-Balai Ringin.

Kuching High Court ordered the state to exclude NCR lands Belong to 7 Longhouses in Tuba from the proposed Sebuyau National Park.

Kuching
Tuesday, 14th September 2010

All the court cases between NCR landowners and Sarawak government  were defended by PKR Lawyer Saudara baru Bian. Did we ever see any dayak law makers from BN came forward and assist the land owners? So far None. With this, I would like to urge all the dayaks to abandon BN  and join Pakatan Rakyat. Bravo Saudara Baru Bian.

The residents of seven longhouses in Tuba today heaved a sigh of relief when the Kuching High Court ordered the state to exclude their lands from the proposed Sebuyau National Park.

“It is a huge victory for us,” said Joshua Karim, a spokesman for the group.

“Credit should be given to the people for their brave efforts and their patience.”

Two years ago, the state government earmarked some 27,500 hectares of land in Ulu Sebuyau for the park, meant as a wildlife sanctuary, particularly for orang utan and proboscis monkeys.

Several longhouses, including the seven in Tuba, would have had to be moved out from the area.

But the Tuba folk brought their case to court with the help of native land rights activist Baru Bian and his legal firm. The decision today ensured that 5,000 acres of the NCR (native customary right) land are safe. Only 400 acres of NCR land are now part of the park.

“Now we can sleep peacefully and are no longer fearful of being moved out from the land which we have occupied since the time of Rajah Brooke,” Karim said.

Negotiations to start

Celebrating the victory with them today was PKR supreme councilor Zaid Ibrahim, who flew in from Kuala Lumpur to hear the court decision.

Zaid said the case should serve as a lesson to the state government that it could not simply ignore the rights of the people.

Baru Bian, briefing the press on the court decision, said his clients would begin negotiations with the government next week for some form of compensation for the money they had to spend on the case.

“I hope it can be settled out of court,” he said.

Kelantan palace crisis flares, Regent to be named Sultan

Kuching
Monday, 13th September 2010

Kelantan’s royal succession council is set to proclaim Regent Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra as the state Ruler today using a new law, stoking a constitutional crisis that began after his father fell ill last year.

The announcement will be based on Article 23A of the Kelantan State Constitution (Second Part), gazetted on July 22, 2010, and which covers the removal of the Sultan from his throne due to a major handicap.

The Sultan, Tuanku Ismail Petra Sultan Yahya Petra, suffered a stroke in May 2009 and has remained incapacitated, paving the way for the council to name the 35-year-old prince — the eldest — as regent.
“The Kelantan Council of Succession will deliberate on the medical reports and also observations from some imams that the Sultan cannot perform his royal duties,”  said a Kelantan palace source , citing use of the new law.

It is also learnt that two members of the council will not be present at the meeting this morning. They are Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who is an uncle to the Raja Perempuan; and the Sultan’s only princess Tengku Amalin Aishah, an assistant registrar at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

According to the Kelantan state constitution, the council consists of a president, deputy president, state mufti, state secretary, four members of the royal family and six to 12 royal subjects of Malay descent.
But the Sultan’s lawyers claimed that the new law “may open the Regent to a charge of interference with the course of justice and to contempt proceedings.”

Rashid Zulkifli Advocates & Solicitors stated that the Sultan had presented two petitions to the Federal Court to obtain its opinion on a number of questions, arising from the actions and conduct of (Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra) as the Regent of the State.

“Central to those questions is the determination by the court of the extent of the power of the Regent acting during the incapacity of the Sultan,” the statement read.
“In view of the pending issue before the Federal Court, it seems to us that it is not proper or lawful for the Regent to pre-empt the decision of the court on the pending issues by arrogating to himself the power of the Sultan under Article 3 of the Constitution,” it added.

It is learnt that the proclamation ceremony will take place at the Throne Room of the Istana Balai Besar there, beginning at 11.30am, with state secretary Datuk Mohd Aiseri Alias scheduled to give details at a 2pm press conference in the Istana Negeri, Kubang Kerian.

He is expected to brief the media on the new Article 23A, which was drafted according to Article 3(2) of the Kelantan State Constitution (Second Part) that covers royal succession.

The Kelantan Insider website, which is aligned to the Regent, said Tengku Faris will ensure that the position of the Sultan and his royal consort will be provided for in another provision under the state constitution, to be revealed at the press conference.

The website also confirmed that Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was unaware of the planned proclamation of a new Sultan as the palace was aware of moves to undermine the event.

“We hereby would also like to take this opportunity to reply to lawyer Rashid Zulkifli’s assertion, as reported in today’s Malaysiakini, that he will challenge the legality [of] this proclamation on the ground that the Regent, by virtue of the Regent being only the Regent instead of the Sultan, does not have the power to make these constitutional amendments,” it said.

“Our simple answer to lawyer Rashid Zulkifli is: Please kindly take the trouble to read, if you had not, or reread, if you had, the ruling made by the High Court judge, Justice Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof, on 29 January 2010, with regard to this matter.”

It quoted the judge as saying that “(i) “the definition of the term ‘His Royal Highness’ under the Kelantan Constitution would refer to the Regent in cases when the Sultan is incapacitated from attending to the affairs of the state.
“(ii) there is no limitation imposed to the Regent to exercise his power and functions during the period,” said the judge.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Sultan’s eldest sister Tengku Merjan Sultan Yahya Petra said she was saddened by attempts to proclaim a new Sultan, describing it as a sad day for the constitutional monarchy system if the “conspirators” were allowed to succeed in ousting her brother as the legal Ruler of the state.
Tengku Merjan claimed that an application for an Opinion of the Federal Court had been made on whether the Regent of Kelantan had the power to remove members of the Council of Succession appointed earlier by the Sultan of Kelantan.

She said both state and federal authorities should take heed of the seriousness of the matter and take positive steps immediately to prevent the “conspirators” from carrying out their “despicable” act, adding that if the matter — if allowed to succeed — would become a dangerous precedent.

Sosilawati and 3 others Confirmed murdered

Kuching
Sunday, 12th September 2010

Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three others were burnt and the ashes scattered at a river near Ladang Gadong in Tanjung Sepat

Police have confirmed the murder of cosmetics millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three others missing with her, saying today the four were burnt and the ashes scattered at a river near Ladang Gadong in Tanjung Sepat near here.
CID Director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said today police will get forensic confirmation to identify the dead.
He said this at a press conference held at the Banting police district headquarters here, hours after newly-installed Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said “more than four people” have been arrested in connecting with the case.

Sosilawati, 47, her driver Kamaruddin Shamsudin, 44, CIMB Kampung Baru officer Noorhisham Mohammad, 38, and lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32, were reported missing since August 30 after going to Banting, Selangor, for a land purchase matter.
Sosilawati had told one of her daughters that she was going on a business trip to Banting for three days and was said to be carrying a large amount of cash.
As reported by The Malaysian Insider the police believed Sosilawati and her companions may have been killed and their bodies burned following the discovery of charred remains at the poultry farm in Tanjung Layang, Morib last night. Their ashes may also have been scattered either into the sea or along the beach.
It is learnt that Sosilawati’s relatives have arrived in Banting to provide DNA samples to the forensic team which is based in a Banting restaurant four kilometres from the farm.
Last Monday, police found her BMW at Angsana Apartment in USJ 1, Subang Jaya and the BMW of Ahmad Kamil in front of a hotel in Subang Jaya but the missing millionaire has not been seen since she was spotted buying Raya cookies at a shop in Kampung Sungai Lan, Banting on September 2.
Earlier, police have cordoned off a site at the poultry farm that was said to belong to one of the suspects, where excavation work was expected to be carried out today.
Police at the site said last night that a forensics team from Bukit Aman would be conducting investigations today.
It is believed that police recovered several items belonging to the four missing people at the same farm.

Malaysia's Bakun dam - a monument of corruption?

Kuching
Sunday, 12th September 2010

The multi-billion-ringgit Bakun dam in Sarawak, already condemned as a catastrophe for the environment and the tribal people, is now battling suggestions it could become a giant white elephant.
The dam, that will eventually submerge an area the size of Singapore, is finally nearing completion after suffering a series of setbacks and delays since its approval in 1993.
But at the last hurdle the project has stumbled again, with delays in winning the state government's permission to begin the flooding process and no takers yet on purchasing its hefty 2,400 megawatt output.
With ambitious plans for an undersea cable to feed Bakun's electricity to the Malaysian peninsula now abandoned, the Sarawak government is the only feasible buyer - leaving it with a very strong hand.

Negotiations not going smoothly

Negotiations with the dam developer Sarawak Hidro Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the national finance ministry, have reportedly been tough.
"It's a case where the owner of the project is naming an asking price that is very different to what the buyer would want," said Wong Chew Hann, an analyst at Malaysia's top bank Maybank.
"I understand there's quite a huge mismatch," she said. "I'm not sure what they've incorporated into the pricing, but the cost of the project has gone up so much since it was started."
As well as the cost of construction, there is the expense of compensating tribal people for their forced relocation from ancestral lands, and suppliers affected by the long delays.
"So the question is, are you going to incorporate all the compensation costs in the tariff price?" said Wong.
With the indigenous people from the Bakun catchment area long since resettled and its valuable timber resources long since felled, the dam has been ready to be flooded since April.
The state government had delayed permission, saying it was still evaluating river levels and the impact on boat transport.
A Sarawak minister reportedly said last week that the necessary permit has been granted, denying both that it had been used as a bargaining chip to lower the tariff and that Sarawak was facing an energy glut.

Not held to ransom

Sarawak Hidro managing director Zulkiflie Osman played down suggestions that he has been held to ransom by the state government.
"Both parties are working together and want it to be settled amicably, with a tariff acceptable to both parties," he told AFP, adding that he expected to strike a tariff deal before December.
The next of Sarawak's mega-dams, the Murum, which is being developed by the state government, is due to come on line in 2013 but Osman said he was convinced the state authorities will not bypass the Bakun in favour of its own project.
Alongside the power purchase negotiations, the federal government is also said to be discussing selling the entire Bakun facility - built at a reported cost of RM7.3 billion - to the state government, but pricing and finance problems have emerged.
Star daily reported in July that the federal government was seeking RM8 billion while the state government offer was just RM6 billion.
The Bakun's output far exceeds existing energy needs in Sarawak, a relatively undeveloped state, and is mostly destined for industrial users such as aluminium smelters, but these are still on the drawing board.
"The main problem is that currently there is no demand for such a big capacity yet, and in order for Sarawak Energy to purchase the dam they would need adequate funding," said an analyst with a major research house.
"The banks would ask for some kind of feasibility study, and as there is no real demand yet this project risks becoming a white elephant," said the analyst, who declined to be named.
Newspaper reports have questioned how the federal government can ever hope to recover the huge amount of money it has sunk into the project.

'Non-starter'

"Marred by too many disagreements, the RM7.3 billion project could very well turn out to be a non-starter," Star said last month, adding that with both the Bakun and Murum dams online there would be a "very real possibility" of a power glut.
Transparency International has labelled Bakun a "monument of corruption" in Sarawak, a state that has been ruled for three decades by the formidable Chief Minister Taib Mahmud (right).
There has also been fierce criticism over the botched relocation of 15,000 indigenous people, who have made an unhappy transition to life in drab resettlement areas.
Baru Bian (left), chairman of the opposition party Keadilan in Sarawak, said the Bakun project was designed purely to profit cronies, and not planned in the public's interest.
"The dam is a waste of public funds, it's not necessary, and what is paramount is that it is disturbing and disrupting the lives of the natives and the environment - the trees and the forests."

Najib New Cow

Kuching
Sunday, 12th September 2010

Raja Petra Kamarudin

(Malaysia Today) - Tan Kay Hock is the low-profile controlling shareholder of Johan Holdings Berhad, a public-listed investment holding company. He is also the golf buddy of Najib Tun Razak and this relationship has made him hundreds of millions. Kay Hock recently caused ripples in China when he asked the Chinese for RM500 million and told them that RM200 million is for Najib’s family.

How playing golf with the Prime Minister can earn you billions

For about ten years and over three Prime Ministers, the current Prime Minister included, the contract for the double-tracking electric train from Gemas to Johor Bahru has been ding-donging. Despite what was agreed between the leaders of China and the three Prime Ministers, which was later confirmed by the issuance of a Letter of Intent to China Railways Engineering Corporation (CREC), the government is again backtracking.
Najib now wants to award the contract to China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd. (CHEC) instead, the company that is building the Second Penang Bridge -- which shot up from RM1 billion to RM4.5 billion and now to RM22 billion (read more on the matter below).

The man behind this is Tan Kay Hock, Najib’s golf buddy. He is brokering the deal on behalf of CHEC.
The Chinese say that Tan Kay Hock is demanding RM500 million from CHEC and he told them that RM200 million is for Najib's family. And this is making the Chinese very unhappy because, in China, both the givers as well the receivers of bribes will be sentenced to death with a bullet in the head plus the cost of the bullet is charged to the family of the deceased.

When the Chinese government offered the Malaysian government a loan to construct the Gemas to JB railway they indicated that CREC should be the contractor. CREC is one of the biggest specialist contractors for electric trains while CHEC has not constructed even one kilometer of electric railway (more details below).
A Letter of Intent had already been awarded to CREC. Now the government wants to cancel this Letter of Intent and issue a new Letter of Intent to CHEC. But for the new Letter of Intent to be issued to CHEC they must fork out RM500 million, which Kay Hock claims RM200 million will be paid to the Prime Minister of Malaysia’s family.

This is not only a violation of the terms of the loan from China but CREC is the company with the experience in constructing electric railways, not CHEC, the company already involved in the construction of the Second Penang Bridge. Added to the withdrawal or cancellation of the Letter of Intent to CREC and a new one issued to CHEC, with a RM500 million ‘price tag’ attached, it puts the Chinese government in a dicey spot when the risk would be a bullet in the head for those who approve the payment.

The Chinese are wondering whether it is worth the risk to pay Kay Hock the RM500 million he is demanding. If the Letter of Intent to CREC can be withdrawn after issuing it, what guarantee is there that the new Letter of Intent to CHEC will also not be withdrawn after they pay the RM500 million?

The Chinese are very aware that Vincent Tan also received a Letter of Approval for his gaming licence, signed by the Deputy Minister of Finance. However, after he paid RM170 million ‘under the table’, Najib denied in Parliament that Vincent Tan had been given a gaming licence and subsequently the Letter of Approval was withdrawn.

KTM is being used as Najib’s new cash cow. The EMU coach was a deal involving Rosmah Mansor (Najib’s wife), Mumtaz Jaafar (Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s ‘godmother’) and Cindy (Desmond Lim's wife). Desmond, in fact, handled the deal where KTM coughed out RM1.4 Billion for coaches that cannot function. According to KTM, the coaches are not even worth RM300 million.

The saga gets more interesting with Najib and Rosmah holidaying in Monaco as guests of Jho Low -- who told everyone that the yacht belongs to the Prince of Qatar. It was later revealed that Jho Low rented the yacht for Euro 90,000 per day to allow Najib and Rosmah to rub shoulders with Hollywood Starlets.

That brings us to a very crucial question. Where did Jho Low get that kind of money? Well, you see, after Malaysia Today exposed Deepak Jaikishan -- Rosmah’s carpetman cum bagman cum toyboy -- she was forced to dump him. So now Jho Low is Rosmah’s new Mister Fixit and Collector of Commissions.
Let us see how the CHEC-Tan Kay Hock saga is played out. Now that the Chinese government knows that we know about the RM500 million deal would they dare still proceed with it? And does Tun Dr Mahathir Mahathir know that Najib has hijacked his pet electric train project?

Mr Tan is said to be a golf buddy of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak

BN's Secretary Says They Can Win Sarawak without Taib Mahmud

Kuching
Saturday, 11th September 2010

SUPP Wants Taib to Go

Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident it will keep Sarawak regardless whether Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud leads the ruling coalition, its secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said.
But Tengku Adnan reminded state party leaders to be aware of public sentiment outside the coalition and to assess the political situation carefully.

“Whether he is there or not there it makes no difference; BN will still win in the next election. But as you know, recently PBB came out with a statement saying that he should carry on,” he said in an interview with The Malaysian Insider.

“It is not for the party to say,” he added, noting that the coalition wanted to keep its two-thirds majority in the Sarawak assembly.

Taib, who has served as Sarawak chief minister for the past 29 years, is said to have been under pressure from another leading BN Sarawak member — the Sarawak United Progressive Party (SUPP) — to step down due to his unpopularity in urban areas where the Chinese-dominated party is contesting.

Tengku Adnan, also Umno secretary-general, however stressed that federal party leaders would not interfere in Taib’s final decision.

“In Sarawak, I believe that Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud will evaluate what the people really want. He is a statesman, I believe he does not want to destroy Barisan Nasional. It is up to him decide. As you know, we do not like to meddle in the component party members affairs,” he said.

Taib has helmed the Sarawak administration for close to three decades. — file pic
Taib leads the Sarawak BN and also its largest party, the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB).
All PBB branches expressed support for Taib’s continued leadership of the state in its next polls, soon after he declared that he would step down if he was no longer needed.

SUPP leaders have recently met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to express their concern on issues affecting the state BN.

Its president and Sarawak deputy chief minister, Tan Sri George Chan, had said this week they received strong support from Najib and would be meeting with Taib soon.

Chan, however, did not elaborate on the details of his meeting with Najib, who is the national BN chairman.

“We also know what is happening there. We know the situation there. I believe the chairman and the prime minister must have spoken to the chief minister, telling [him] the actual situation in Sarawak and what we need to do in order for us to remain in power,” said Tengku Adnan.

He also dismissed talks of SUPP abandoning the state BN ahead of the next Sarawak election.

“The situation with SUPP is because they felt that they are no longer effective in the state because of some shortcomings in the state itself. But they have not left [the] state BN, they are still a component member of BN Sarawak and their state assemblymen are still in the Cabinet of Sarawak,” said Tengku Adnan.

“We hope that they will still stay on as a component member of BN Sarawak, irrespective of whatever their feelings are and their performance in the last election,” he added.

Tengku Adnan also reminded the SUPP that they are in a real partnership where no component party will be left out.

He also said that the party and the Chinese community would still be represented even if SUPP does not do well in the next election.

“We have been ‘married’ for a long time. We cannot simply ditch our partners just because they are not doing well,” said Tengku Adnan.

The Chinese make up only 26 per cent of the Sarawak population, but they reside mainly in urban, more developed regions of Malaysia’s largest state.

There are two Chinese SUPP ministers in the Sarawak Cabinet and five assistant ministers.

The current term of the Sarawak assembly expires in July next year and the government is expected to call for state election by the end of this year.

The opposition collectively won nine seats in 2006, seven of which are Chinese-majority.

“We are in a real partnership. We don’t have a loose arrangement. Take for example Gerakan. We appoint the president as a minister,” said Tengku Adnan referring to Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon who was made senator and appointed to Cabinet despite failing to win a federal seat.

He also played down the fear that the Chinese would not be represented in the next Sarawak government, adding that SUPP’s problems could still be mitigated.

“I still believe if certain things [are] done now, maybe Sarawak needs new faces in certain parts. Maybe George Chan has been there too long, maybe Wong Soon Koh also has been there too long,” said Tengku Adnan.

“Maybe they need some new faces, but as I said, we are also taking risks with new faces,” he added.

Chan, 74 has been a state assemblyman since 1983 and was appointed deputy chief minister in 1996, while state Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, 68, first won his state seat of Bawang Assan in 1991, and has been in the Cabinet since 1996.

Tengku Adnan also reminded the state leaders to solve the native customary rights (NCR) land issue, which has been used by the opposition in its campaign.

“The RM20 million given for land survey, I said, yes, people will applaud, but at the end of the day they want to see their land titles. We need to perform,” said Tengku Adnan.

Najib in his recent visit to Sarawak announced an allocation of RM20 million for the surveying of NCR land.

The measure was to ensure the government’s recognition of the Sarawakian natives’ land ownership.

Another Stunning Revelation By Sarawak Report On Taib Mahmud Corrupt Practice

Kuching
Thursday,9th September 2010

RM 78 million from Sarawak’s Sewers – Taibs’ Shitload of profit!

It has emerged that Abdul Taib Mahmud and his family have conducted a massive raid on the public funding for Kuching’s new sewerage system.

Figures show that out of a total 530 million ringgit handed out from taxpayers’ money to pay for the project, a staggering 78 million ringgit has been siphoned off by the Taib family and a crony company called Nishimatsu Construction (Nishimatsu’s parent company is currently being prosecuted in Japan in connection with a massive bribery and corruption scandal).

The theft is just the latest example of the so-called ’skimming’ of publicly funded projects by using bogus sub-contracts, which has become a standard form of abuse in Sarawak under Taib. Critics have condemned it as the crudest possible form of corruption.

”Even a child could understand what is going on”, complained one outraged opposition figure last week, “the only reason Taib gets away with it is because he would sack any newspaper editor who dared to print what is going on. If the people knew the extent of it, the billions he has stolen in this way, they would be marching in fury!”.

Skimming using bogus sub-contracting is now standard practice in Sarawak

The method of theft is indeed astonishingly simple and the Chief Minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud, has made it common practice during his thirty years rule over the State of Sarawak. First he abuses his position of power by placing a project in the hands of a company run by an unqualified member of his own family or a friend. Then the crony sub-contracts the project to another company that is capable of doing the job, but for far less than the original amount. This way the Taibs pocket the difference.

'Businesswoman' - Raziah Mahmud

In the case of the Kuching Sewerage System, therefore, it came as little surprise to insiders when it was announced on 30th September 2008that the Chief Minister had awarded the 530 million ringgit contract to a consortium of three companies that included Kumpulan Construction, which is run by his sister, Raziah Mahmud. She and Taib’s brother Onn own 87.5% of the shares in the company.

So what does Raziah Mahmud know about building a public sewerage system?

Kumpulan construction reportedly has no construction equipment and Raziah Mahmud is not qualified to build a modern sewerage system. In fact, her meteoric ‘business career’ developed shortly after Taib Mahmud became Chief Minister, when numerous public contracts started coming the way of companies suddenly started up by herself and other Taib family members.

Onlookers point out that Raziah Mahmud has only developed one area of evident expertise, which is her ability to rapidly sub-contract projects which have been handed to her by her brother. Thus, on 21st October 2008, less than a month after the original government contract was awarded to the consortium of Kumpulan Construction, Nishimatsu Construction and Hock Seng Lee Bhd (HSL) it was further announced by HSL that the project had now been sub-contracted to them alone, but at the much reduced sum of 452 Million Ringgit. This leaves 78 million ringgit unaccounted for in the hands of the other two companies, Kumpulan and Nishimatsu.

Unsavoury business partner?

Ichiro Ozawa - Japanese opposition leader forced to resign over Nishimatsu funding scandal. Who next?
Sarawak Report would therefore like to know how the missing 78 million ringgit was divided between Raziah Mahmud and the Japanese-owned Nishimatsu Construction Co?

Nishimatsu Construction hit the headlines last year when the Japanese authorities arrested its Chairman for operating a I billion Yen slush fund, which he admitted he had used to make bribes to gain foreign contracts and to make illegal political donations. The scandal forced the resignation of the Japanese opposition leader Ichiro Ozawa.

Therefore, it is only fair to demand a clear explanation of the relationship between Nishimatsu and the Taib family and to ask what work could have been carried out by Kumpulan/Nishamatsu during this three week period that could have merited a payment of what is around US $25 million?

If such enquiries have brought a top political resignation in Japan, what might a proper investigation produce in Sarawak?

Taibs’ long-standing ties with Nishimatsu

Nishimatsu admitted paying 400 million yen bribe to build this water tunnel in Thailand. What was the deal in Sarawak?
Our researches have further shown that the Kuching Sewerage project is just one of several large-scale public construction projects that have been handed in much the same way to the same consortium of Kumpulan Construction, Nishimatsu Construction and HSL.
Since Raziah’s take-over of Kumpulan in June 1986 (up to which point it was a dormant company) the projects awarded to the same three companies have included the 40,000 seat outdoor stadium at Petra Jaya worth RM105 million and The Senari Deepsea Port valued at RM160 million.
Unfortunately for the public purse however, the level of profit that Kumpulan has been able to register from these major ventures has been minimal, according to figures obtained from the Register of Companies. For example, in 1991 a turnover of MR8.5 million produced only MR 249,474 in profits and in 1991 a turnover of MR 5,811,443 produced profits of just MR 23,451. In fact for five of the years between 1986 and 1998 the company actually registered a loss for tax purposes.

How much went to Taib himself?

Given that Sarawak Report has now established that Taib family members operate a system of secretly holding shares in their companies in trust for the Chief Minister (see Unmasked – Taib the Godfather, Sarawak Report), the people of Sarawak can assume that in fact a large chunk of the money skimmed off from the sewerage project has gone straight into Taib’s own foreign bank accounts.

Wealth - Raziah and her family pose in their sumptuous surroundings

The vast ‘cut’ taken by the Chief Minister’s family for this project means that either the people of Sarawak have paid MR 78 million too much for the job in the first place, or that the contract is now short of money and will be inadequately carried out.
Worringly, the most likely answer is a combination of both, meaning the people of Kuching have paid too much money for a sub-standard sewerage system purely in order to further enrich the Taib family.
Reform of the system could immediately be carried out by returning to the conventional system of open tendering for public contracts, which is the globally-accepted method of preventing fraud of this nature and is supported by the main opposition parties in Sarawak.
